The Immaculate Conception

The “Immaculate Conception” is a Catholic doctrine that teaches the special intervention of God to cleanse the original sin from the Virgin Mary before her birth. According to Catholicism, all human beings are born with original sin until they receive God’s grace through faith. By having faith in Christ, Catholics believe that Jesus removes the original sin.

The National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is considered a sacred place where the original sin of humanity can be cleansed.
