The Steinway piano inside the White House
Inside the White House, there is a Steinway piano situated in the entrance hall. In front of the grand entrance, there is a driveway where the president’s limousine is parked. The entrance hall is a spacious area, measuring 9 meters in height and 13 meters in width. The walls are adorned in soft pink and white, while the floor is made of light pink and beige marble, always kept impeccably clean and shiny.
Despite being called the entrance hall, this space is also used for events like dance parties and gatherings. For such occasions, the Steinway piano, once kept in the East Room, makes an appearance. Although there are several pianos within the White House, this particular one is the most famous.
The piano was designed by architect Eric Gugler, who was responsible for the redesign of the White House in 1933. The piano’s legs are supported by golden American eagles, and the sides of the body are decorated with motifs reminiscent of medieval dances, all done in gold leaf.
